On Saturday there is a crisis meeting in Great Britain. The meeting was due to a heat wave. Prime Minister Boris Johnson skipped the meeting. He has a weekend getaway at his country house.

The record heat is 38.7 degrees in the UK. On Monday and Tuesday, it is expected to be over 40 degrees.

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raad encourages the use of sunscreen. He asked people to stay hydrated and out of the sun during the hottest periods.

– We should enjoy the sunshine. And we have to be tough enough to handle some of the pressures that will come up, Raad told the Sky News channel.

He believes that there is no reason to close schools on Mondays and Tuesdays. On that day, the heat wave is expected to reach its peak.

Tracy Nicholls reacted to the Deputy Prime Minister’s statement. Nicholls is the head of the union for ambulance workers in the UK.

– It’s not normal heat which you can protect with sunscreen. It’s the severe heat that can actually cause death, says Nicholls.

England’s Met Office has issued a red alert for the first time. The warning is for extreme heat. This means that there is a “danger to life”.

Ambulance in emergency due to heat. Police have asked people to stay away from the waterways. A 16-year-old boy drowned in a canal in northwest England on Saturday.

British water suppliers are having problems with supply. It’s because of the hot weather. Affinity Water said the heat resulted in lower water pressure in areas such as London, Essex and Surrey.

The company encourages customers to avoid using water that is not absolutely necessary. They believe that an additional 164 million liters of water will be needed on Monday. This is compared to normal requests.

– Due to hot weather, many of us use more water, the company states.
