Great Britain has been hit by a historically large outbreak of bird flu

The outbreak is the country’s largest, he wrote Reuters.

Due to the Christmas season, up to 1.3 million free birds are slaughtered in the UK each year.

– We’ve seen that around 600,000 of these free birds have been directly impacted, said Richard Griffiths, head of the UK’s trade organization for poultry producers.

Total turkey production in connection with the UK Christmas season amounts to nine million turkeys annually. One million of them have died of the disease or been euthanized as a result of the bird flu outbreak, said Griffiths.

He said it was unclear how this would affect turkey and goose prices during the Christmas season, and it was uncertain how they would be able to meet demand.
