The certification confirms that the six Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED 4K models have a lower carbon footprint than their predecessors, by referencing the footprint from start to finish of the product lifecycle.
As Samsung ramps up its sustainability efforts, more than 20 models are expected to be certified by the end of this year.
Samsung Electronics announced today that six models in its 2023 Neo QLED lineup have earned Carbon Trust “Reducing CO2” certification. This seal is awarded to a product when it is shown that its carbon footprint has decreased over the years; it also embodies Samsung’s efforts to increase sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.
“It is great to see Samsung’s sustainability mission recognized by a trusted organization as we remain committed to creating products with the future of our planet in mind.said Seokwoo Yong, Executive Vice President and Head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As the world’s largest television manufacturer, we have a responsibility to lead by example and will continue to use technology to drive positive change.“.
Carbon Trust is a global climate consultancy founded by the UK government with the mission of responding to climate change and reducing greenhouse gases (GHG). Organizations calculate their carbon footprint certification by evaluating the amount of GHG they generate[1] throughout the product life cycle, from production to disposal, according to internationally recognized standards. Keep in mind that seals do not take CO2 compensation into account.
The 2023 QLED Neo model was certified in recognition of Samsung’s efforts to reduce product weight and power consumption over time compared to its predecessors. The six certified models include three Neo QLED 8K displays and three Neo QLED 4K displays[2]. As Samsung looks to expand the reach of this effort, it hopes to achieve carbon footprint certification for more than 20 models this year across its new QLED, Crystal UHD, and OLED TV lineups, as well as display and signage products.
In 2021, the Samsung Neo QLED will be the first screen to receive certification among TVs with 4K and higher resolution. The following year, 16 models from Samsung’s 2022 lineup, including 11 models from the QLED, Crystal UHD, and Lifestyle TV lineups, as well as five monitors and billboard products, also achieved certification.
As the world leader in television for 17 consecutive years, Samsung’s Visual Display Business division continues to introduce sustainable products and practices into its exhibited products.
