UK Parliament good practice watchdog investigates Rishi Sunak | International

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is being investigated by the body that oversees the conduct of MPs in the British Parliament for a possible conflict of interest, which the media has linked to the nursery in which his wife, Akshata Murphy, shares. Parliamentary Conduct Commissioner Daniel Greenberg said today he opened an investigation into Sunak last week under rules requiring lawmakers to state their interests “openly and honestly”.

“Members should always be open and forthright when expressing relevant interests in the process of the Council or its committees, and in any communications with ministers, members, public officials or holders of public office,” pointing to the commissioner’s website. Following the news, a spokesman for the Downing Street official residence said Sunak would help the commissioner clarify these interests in a “transparent” manner.

Media have accused the investigation of being linked to Murthy’s stake in Koru Kidsalgo, something that could be seen as a conflict of interest. In the State Budget unveiled a few weeks ago, the head of Economics, Jeremy Hunt, announced measures to make it easier for children to access state assistance to attend nursery from the age of nine months, instead of the current age of two.
