The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned the ambassadors of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada to personally convey the Russian Government’s discomfort at alleged “serious interference” in domestic affairs and for exceeding the powers of its diplomatic status.
The ministry confirmed this complaint in a statement, according to the Interfax agency, after in recent days the three governments once again expressed their disagreement with cases such as opposition member Vladimir Kara Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for high treason, and for criticizing the Armed Forces. They also criticized the arrest of ‘Wall Street Journal’ journalist Evan Gershkovich, who instead reappeared on Tuesday to appear before a Moscow court.
