García Fermín said the International Scholarship program was unprecedented in Latin America
NEW DAILY, SANTO DOMINGO. – The international scholarship award program undertaken by the Government of President Luis Abinader is unprecedented in Latin American and Caribbean countries, in the efforts of Dominican youth to specialize in foreign universities with the highest academic prestige.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Franklin García Fermín, while presiding over the farewell ceremony for the 209 young Dominicans who will be leaving in the coming days to specialize at universities in Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
He indicated that every year the Government, on the instructions of President Abinader, sends 2,000 students to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees at 65 universities around the world so that they can specialize in various careers, so that when they return to Indonesia they can contribute. their knowledge in various sectors of the Dominican Republic.
While addressing young people, the official highlighted the level of transparency of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) in providing international scholarships to students who benefit from the program.
“You will prepare at the highest level and you must appreciate this opportunity in a fair dimension for the benefit of the country,” he said.
Among the scholarship recipients are young people from vulnerable sectors in the provinces of Azua, Barahona, Dajabón, Duarte, Espaillat, Mayor of Hato, Montecristi, Puerto Plata, San Juan, San Pedro, Valverde and the municipality of Bayaguana, among others.
The universities that will accommodate Dominican students are Western Michigan University and Broward International University, from the United States; ENAE Business School, Istituto Europeo di Design, Higher Institute of Law and Economics, Further Education, Eude Business School, Catholic University of Murcia and University of Navarra, Spain; and Bangor University, from England and Swiss Education Group, from Switzerland.
Cindy de los Ángeles, a native of the province of Santiago Rodríguez, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the students who have benefited from the international scholarship program run by MESCYT.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Administration and Finance, José A. Cancel; the person in charge of International Scholarships, Roselia Pérez and the Higher Education adviser to the Presidency, Francisco Vegazo, among other officials.
