Aragonès insists: “The resolution of the Catalan conflict requires a referendum”
The President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, has warned that rResolving the Catalan political conflict “can only happen through a referendum” and has advocated to “keep working” and “move forward” once “the amnesty is confirmed.”
In this regard, he considered that the “position” of the acting president of the Government and secretary general of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, supports The amnesty is “important and necessary” to “move forward in resolving the Catalan conflict”, but it has shown that “there are unresolved issues” to finish, like transfer of management of Rodalies to the Generalitat and solution to the fiscal deficit.
Aragonès spoke in these terms this Saturday, in his statement to the media, before the October Eve celebrations in Valencia, after this morning Sánchez assured that “Catalonia is ready for total reunion”, and defended the approval of the amnesty law as “the only way” so that there is a PSOE Government.
“Amnesty is an important and necessary step, and it is needed now, to achieve progress in resolving political conflicts.”has stressed, while urging, “once the amnesty is confirmed”, to “continue to seek a resolution of the conflict” which, in his opinion, “can only occur through a referendum.”
Aragonès objected that “it is also evident that other important issues are still pending in connection with the coronation, such as the need for the transfer of Rodalies and the end of the fiscal deficit.” In this case, he highlights that “There are still days ahead” and he emphasized “steps forward” that “confirm what we have seen in recent weeks: that amnesty is essential for progress.”
