Cuba and Britain signed a political dialogue and cooperation agreement this week

Havana, November 21 (EFE).- Cuba and the UK will this week sign a Political Dialogue and Cooperation agreement that will form the basis of bilateral relations on matters such as economic development, the environment and human rights.

The signing of the agreement will take place during the visit to Cuba of the British Minister for the Americas and the Caribbean, David Rutley, who arrives in Havana this Tuesday, the British embassy on the island reported on social networks.

“As part of our commitment to strengthening ties between the UK and Cuba, I look forward to signing the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement,” Rutley said in a statement.

The British minister added that this bilateral agreement would allow the UK to address “important issues for both sides such as human rights and the embargo” on Havana.

In his first official visit to the Caribbean country, Rutley is scheduled to meet with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and with representatives of various UN agencies. He has also scheduled meetings with local businesspeople, among others.

There are currently no media calls announced by either party. Details of the text have not been revealed.

Britain became a member of the European Union (EU) when the community bloc signed a Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement with Cuba in 2017, but later left the European Union.

In this way, London will formalize its own communication mechanism with Cuba. EFE
