United Kingdom: – Parental warning: – Talk to children

On Thursday, Carlisle East fire station in England issued a warning, after receiving reports of children daring each other to get out in the icy water.

They reported it in a Facebook post.

– All men get ready!

Currently temperatures below zero degrees in most parts of the UK are causing the water surface of ponds and lakes to freeze to ice.

– It’s just a matter of time

The fire service said they were concerned about reports they had received of small children getting out on the ice.

– We became aware that some children in the city area were “challenging” each other to walk on ice-covered water. This is very dangerous, they wrote.

They send a clear message that “it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs”.

They encourage parents to chat with their children about how dangerous it is to walk on unsafe ice.

– The ice on the surface of the water looks thick enough to walk on, but may be thinner than it appears. If you fall through the ice and into freezing water, it is very difficult to get back out. If you see someone in distress in the water, call the emergency number and call the fire department immediately, they wrote.

Clear message: – Talk to them

To prevent a similar incident from happening again, the crew planned to visit the largest park nearby, where several children were said to have moved onto the ice.

They also encourage parents and teachers to talk to their students about the dangers of walking on thin ice.

– We want to talk to children in the local area, and put up signage as a temporary measure. If you work in a school in your local area, and if you are a parent or guardian, please talk to your children about this tonight.
