Olly Alexander has made his mark as a pop singer – both with the band Years and Years, which eventually transitioned into solo projects. He has three albums behind him, two of which topped the UK album charts, and ten of his songs are in the country’s Top 40 list.
It recently won the Brit Billion Award after being streamed 6.5 billion times globally, reports Variety.
He has collaborated with such forces as Elton John, Kylie Minogue and the Pet Shop Boys – and Norwegian songwriter Caroline Ailin, with whom he co-wrote Years and Years’ song “See You Again”.
The upcoming British contribution will be written by Olly Alexander alongside compatriot Danny L. Harle, according to the site Eurovision fun is the mastermind behind Dua Lipa’s latest hit song “Houdini” – for which Ailin also serves as songwriter.
As an actor, Olly Alexander was nominated by Bafta for the lead role in the award-winning and critically acclaimed TV series about the onset of AIDS, “It’s A Sin”. There he performed his version of the Pet Shop Boys song with Elton John.
– I really love Eurovision, it’s a dream come true, he said about his new assignment.
Eurovision will be held in Malmö in May next year after Loreen’s win.
