In connection with the development of the Rosebank oil field, the UK’s largest proven oil field, Equinor was responsible for several advertising campaigns about its own environmental profile.
Recent complaints filed on December 19 could mean that the oil and gas giant could be dismantled by UK advertising authority ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) for a second time, wrote Class struggle.
Equinor even claims that the Rosebank development is part of their contribution to “reducing overall CO2 emissions”.
This has been complained of as highly misleading advertising by British environmental organization WWF-UK. They are supported by WWF Norway. Secretary General Karoline Andaur considered it all disrespectful.
– Claiming that large new oil fields will reduce emissions is an expression of a lack of self-awareness or a lie, Andaur told the newspaper.
Alice Baxter press officer for Equinor in the UK told the newspaper they would not comment on the case until the ASA decides whether the complaint will be upheld.
Earlier this summer, Equinor was shocked by an advertisement in the UK’s The Economist. The reason for the felling was a campaign which, according to ASA, gave the impression that its business activities were not in the oil and gas sector.
Now it can be cut down again, writes Klassekampen.
