They were very lucky – no one was hurt.
“It feels like Newquay is going to fall into the sea,” wrote one Facebook user. Others advised against building more on the cliffs.
Monday was one of the sunniest days in Cornwall so far this year, Metro wrote, so they had expected the beaches to be packed with people.

A clear message
Now they have put up barricades and asked people not to put towels at the foot of the cliff.
“We are monitoring and working with partners to ensure the area remains safe. (…) Please keep your distance from the safety barriers we have put in place,” Cornwall Council on X wrote.
