Veganuary is a non-profit, non-governmental group from the UK interested in promoting veganism in Ecuador,”because what is lacking here is the promotion and have a recipe for following the regimen, because Ecuador is a haven for vegetables and fruits,” Mauricio Serrano, company commitment manager for the initiative, told Diario EXPRESO.
He added that in Latin America, in the rankings, Argentina was in first place, followed by Chile, Colombia and Brazil, and now the goal is to attract more Ecuadorians. In this year’s international group, 629,000 people participated.
When I chose to eat more vegetables, I lost 12 pounds and my health improved. Twice a month I eat meat or eggs. I am French and I love the variety of vegetables and fruits in Ecuador.

“We have worked with companies to increase the supply of vegan food in shops and restaurants, and we have made veganism more visible and accessible through our work. Now we have visualized Ecuador, which has a lot of potential, not only for more Ecuadorians to become vegan, but also for creating businesses. The promotion that we will do is on the Internet”, explained Serrano.
Business proposals come out of even homework. “My family is vegetarian. My daughter Ana is 10 years old and is learning from Guayaquil online at a school in England. There he presented an investigation for making clothes with bagasse”, says Shammy Coello, a volunteer in Ecuador in the vegan community.
What’s missing for developing an idea? Financing to bring technologybecause in the world there are clothes made of cocoa and orange peel, he said.
I am a vegetarian, but I have been trying to be vegan for six months; I decided after watching videos about animal suffering. My mother and brother also have this lifestyle.

“We don’t eat any kind of animal product, nor do we use the skin; such that there are international initiatives to make shoes from pineapple, mushroom or cactus. In Colombia they do it”, said Serrano.
Diario EXPRESO toured the city center, Urdesa and the road to Samborondón looking for vegan restaurants and products and it wasn’t hard to find them. Zarimport and Bhakti stores are examples and have beauty and personal hygiene products. Nadia Romero, in charge of Marketing at Zarimport, said that in recent years this shop has been registered 60% increase in product sales for vegans.
