On Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth attended a memorial service for her late husband Prince Philip. It was his first major public event since last year.
The British royal family confirmed just two hours before a memorial service on Tuesday that the king would be in attendance. The queen used a wand when she arrived at the church.
The 95-year-old queen will turn 96 next month. He had not attended events outside Windsor Castle since October. He was later hospitalized due to illness. Queen Elizabeth also contracted the coronavirus earlier this year.
This, in addition to walking and standing issues, led the Queen to choose to cancel the Commonwealth Day service at the last minute on March 14.
During the celebrations, the queen sat next to her son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles. Several members of the British royal family and politicians also attended the memorial service. It happened at Westminster Abbey in London.
However, Prince Harry and his family have not left the United States.
Led by a disgraceful prince
During memorial services, Queen Elizabeth, who is celebrating her 70th year on the throne, is sometimes clearly marked as she remembers her husband of more than 73 years.
With her was her son Prince Andrew, who led his mother to church. It is the first time the scandal-ridden prince has appeared in public following the settlement of a harassment case in February.
Virginia Giuffre, formerly known as Virginia Roberts, accused the prince of multiple sexual assaults on her in 2001, when she was 17 and a minor under US law.
In mid-January, it became known that Prince Andrew had renounced his royal and military titles, and was no longer allowed to use “His Royal Highness”.
She (the queen) has made it clear that Andrew can participate and have a role in family events, former BBC royal house correspondent Peter Hunt says, according to the AFP news agency.
He also stressed that the prince vehemently denied the accusations.
King Harald resigned after being infected
Prince Philip died in April last year. Due to the current coroner’s restrictions in England at the time, only the next of kin were present at his funeral.
A photo of Queen Elizabeth sitting alone at the memorial has almost become a symbol of the coronavirus pandemic in Britain.
However, at Tuesday’s memorial service, nobles from a number of countries were present. According to AFP, about 1800 people attended
King Harald and Queen Sonja were supposed to go, but had to cancel when the king was diagnosed with coronary heart disease.
