There was total chaos outside the Stade de Fane ahead of the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid on Saturday night.
– We are deeply disappointed by the problems our fans faced tonight at the Stade de France, Liverpool wrote in a statement on Saturday evening and stressed that they wanted an investigation into the matter which was “unacceptable”.
Shortly after, UEFA issued a statement explaining the chaos:
Towards the end of the match, the Liverpool fans’ entrance was blocked by thousands of supporters who had bought fake tickets that didn’t work at the entrance. As the sea of people continued to grow, police chose to eject people with tear gas and force them away from the stadium, the statement said.
Final postponed: – Total chaos
Furthermore, UEFA wrote that they will take a closer look at what is happening in collaboration with the French police and the French Football Association.
Even after the final, which Real Madrid won 1-0, there was chaos in the French capital.
– Protesters threw projectiles and police used tear gas, France 24 wrote on Twitter.
Tore Hansen, general manager of Liverpool support club Norway, confirmed this to Dagbladet.
– There is a lot of chaos, frustration and confusion before the game. Much of the same thing happened after the game, he said, adding that Liverpool’s Norwegian supporters would celebrate despite the slipping win.
