Warned against hurricane «Alex»

Tropical Storm “Alex” came on Sunday morning from the Gulf of Mexico and into southern Florida with heavy rain and gusts of wind. This report AP news agency.

“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. It is not recommended to travel in this condition. Better to wait. Turn around, don’t drown,” wrote the official Twitter account for the city of Miami.

“Alex” was the first hurricane to be named during hurricane season in the Atlantic. Hurricane season officially begins on Tuesday. It’s amazingly early for a hurricane like Alex.

A tropical storm warning was issued earlier in the Bermuda archipelago.

The city of Miami also wrote that heavy rains in the past 24 hours have caused sewer flooding in central Miami. They had issued a suggestion that one should not swim in the ocean now. The beach was closed, according to the New York Post.

Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said the storm tested the system with a drainage pump recently installed in the city. Climate change is increasingly making flooding a problem in low-lying areas, the mayor believes.

– We can pump water quickly, but in some areas there are clearly bigger challenges. There were issues with travel on some of the roads, but the water was safe overall, Gelber told the AP.

On Saturday, several areas of south Florida experienced road flooding and strong winds. Authorities warned motorists against flooded roads, and several cars got caught in the water mess. The damaged car was towed from the flooded road.

The storm then headed for Cuba, before a tropical storm hit Florida.
