Norwegian royal family in mourning

The Royal Family has received with great sadness the news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain has passed away.

– Our thoughts go out to His Royal Highness the King and his immediate family on the passing of Queen Elizabeth. For a century, the Queen devoted herself faithfully to her work and accompanied the British people through ups and downs, in good times and bad. Our condolences also go out to the British people, His Majesty King Harald said in a press release from the Royal Palace on Thursday evening.

Change program

The palace marked the Queen’s death by flying the flag at half-mast on Fridays and on funerals.

Palace press contact Sven Gjeruldsen confirmed to Dagbladet that there will be changes to the Royal Palace program in the next few days. Castle will not reveal what changes will be made.

According to the royal couple’s official program, the king and queen are scheduled to travel to Copenhagen on Saturday to participate in the celebration of Queen Margrethe’s 50th year on the Danish throne. It is not known whether this visit was affected by the announced changes.

On September 14-15, the crown prince pair are scheduled to visit the United Kingdom.

Close relationship

Queen Elizabeth and King Harald are triplets. The relationship goes back to their great-grandfathers, King Edvard VII and Queen Alexandra – who were parents to our own Queen Maud, the Palace reports on its website.

No other head of state has made three state visits to Norway. Throughout her long reign, Queen Elizabeth made state visits to King Haakon VII, King Olav V and His Royal Highness King Harald.

When Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne at the age of 25, Norway became the first country outside the British Commonwealth to visit on a state visit.

The Norwegian royal family has visited Great Britain on a number of official occasions, and have also frequently visited their British relatives during private trips to England and Scotland.

Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf also offered his condolences:

– It is with sadness that my family and I received today the news of the passing of my dearest relative, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, said a message from the Swedish royal house, reports dagger.
