As such, the film’s premiere at the weekend was the second best of the year for a British film in the UK, it wrote Hollywood Reporter.
459 cinemas in the UK showed the film over the weekend, and it generated ticket revenues of US$4.2 – NOK 28.3 million.
Tyldum’s film was beaten only by “The Inbetweeners 2” on the list of British films opening weekend in the UK so far this year.
Helga’s second best film
Despite its high numbers, “The Imitation Game” was not the highest grossing film of the weekend in the British Isles.
Ticket revenues for the sci-fi thriller “Interstellar” totaled 5.9 million dollars, more than 39.9 million kroner.
“The Imitation Game” premiered in Norway on Christmas Day and premiered in American theaters on November 28.
Mentioned as an Oscar candidate
Morten Tyldum, who broke through with “The Headhunters” in 2011, this weekend received the best director award at the Hollywood Film Awards for his film about mathematician Alan Turing (see fact box).
The director of Sotra, among others, will leave Deadlines, Indie Wire And Kingdom mentioned as a candidate to win the best director award at next year’s Oscars.
“The Imitation Game” was well received by critics in the US, but received more mixed reviews in the UK.
Some reviewers thought the film focused too little on the orientation of the main characters.
