It’s the 20th anniversary of the AARP Film Awards for Adults, and you’re invited! The star-studded special, hosted by Alan Cumming, airs on Great Show on PBS on Friday, March 18, 2022, and still can look here (link in English) and in the PBS Video app. It’s like throwing a Zoom party with the stars as they eagerly accept awards and share secrets about their films and TV shows.
Will Smith, winner of the Best Film Actor award, acknowledged that the performances of the young women who played the princess and her tennis star in King Richard brought him to tears, while Kenneth Branagh thanked older viewers for making Belfast go out, and explains why he left the last scene of the film. Best TV Actress award winner Jean Smart says she learned something from playing an old comedian who refuses to leave the show on Hacking: “The key to longevity in your career, and perhaps in your life as well, is consistency; he refuses to disappear!” And you’ll burst out laughing when Lifetime Achievement Award winner Lily Tomlin reenacts the speech of a famous adult actress from long ago when she received an Oscar.
