Argentina rejected a visit by a senior British official to the Malvinas Islands

The Argentine government rejected a visit by Parliamentary Deputy Foreign Minister and Minister for the Americas, Caribbean and Overseas Territories of the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development, David Rutley, to the Falkland Islands.

This visit took place in the context of the implementation of the British illegal occupation of the Malvinas Islands, the South Georgia Islands, the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime space, which, as an integral part of Argentina’s national territory, is the subject of a sovereignty dispute recognized by the UN.

The Government of Argentina reiterates that the restoration of the exercise of full sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime space, in accordance with international law and respecting the way of life of the inhabitants of these islands, constitutes a State. policy enshrined in its national constitution and once again calls on the UK to resume sovereignty negotiations in accordance with resolution 2065(XX) and other resolutions of the General Assembly and the Special Committee on Decolonization.

Britain must comply with repeated mandates from the international community and end the anachronistic colonial situation it has maintained in parts of Argentina since 1833.
