British Intelligence: Chaos during the Russian withdrawal at Bakhmut

Russian troops in the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut may have had to withdraw in “bad order” in the past four days.
This is what the British Ministry of Defense wrote in its daily intelligence report.
According to the British, there was talk of a position on the south side of the abandoned town.
– The area has a particular tactical significance as it is the Russian foothold on the west side of the Donets-Donbas canal, which forms the front line in some parts of the sector.
The withdrawn brigade was part of the Third Army Corps. Previously there had been several accusations of low morale and fighting ability.
– Such a demanding deployment of the corps on the front made clear the lack of credible combat units in Russia, wrote the British.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov confirmed on Friday that the Ukrainian offensive had pushed back their troops in Bakhmut.
In contrast to the ministry, the leader of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, draws a more dramatic picture of the situation.
– What Konashenkov described as a regrouping of Russian troops was sadly a chaotic retreat, he said.
The Russians have been trying for ten months to take the city, but so far without success.
The battle was one of the bloodiest since Russia invaded Ukraine – and heavy casualties were reported on both sides.
