Britain asks British citizens to leave Lebanon due to deteriorating security

MADRID, October 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Wednesday, Britain asked British citizens in Lebanon to leave the country “while commercial flights are available” in the context of violent demonstrations over the attack on the Al Ahli hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip, which has killed 471 people. according to Gaza authorities.

British authorities have issued a travel warning generally advising against travel to Lebanon “due to the deteriorating political and security situation” resulting from the conflict between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Exchanges of mortars, artillery and airstrikes took place in southern Lebanon, on the border with Israel. Tensions are very high and events can escalate without warning, which could affect or limit exit routes,” authorities explained.

They also warned of the risk of “unrest” in light of recent protests in front of the US and French embassies. “More protests are expected. Britons should be careful,” they added.

London has also announced the withdrawal of families of staff who were part of its Embassy in Beirut. “The Embassy continues its important work, including services to British citizens,” he added.
