– We have no records or evidence to suggest that Sellafield was attacked by state actors as described by The Guardian, British authorities said late Monday.

British newspapers on Monday referred to sources who claimed that the hack allegedly occurred in 2015.

It is currently unknown whether the software has been removed, the newspaper wrote.

The Guardian sources have spoken out to claim that hackers may have had access to security level material at Sellafield.

Sellafield is a nuclear facility located in the center of the United Kingdom, overlooking the Irish Sea. The area was established as a nuclear power plant in early 1947. There is said to be a large amount of radioactive material in the area, which The Guardian describes as the most toxic in Europe.

Sellafield’s representatives have stated that they have no comment regarding the newspaper’s hacking claims.

As well as claiming a hack, The Guardian wrote that the UK’s nuclear safety regulatory authority (ONR) had expressed concerns about cyber security at the power plant. ONR is also said to have investigated standards and safety at Sellafield.
