Cafiero: “Malvinas is here and has to be the future”

In an act held at the Auditorium Manuel Belgrano of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs santiago cafiero commemorates the Affirmation Day of Argentina’s Rights to the Malvinas, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands and the corresponding sea and island spaces.

Cafiero was accompanied by the secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic, Guillermo Carmona; National Director for Malvinas and the South Atlantic Islands, sandra pitta And Clara Vernetdescended from the first political-military Commander Malvinas and adjacent to Cape Horn in the Atlantic Ocean, which pays homage to the first settlers of the islands, given the effective exercise of sovereignty exercised by the Argentine authorities in the islands between 1829 and 1833, when they were illegally occupied by Great Britain.

Owner of the Palace of San Martín He assured that “the challenges ahead are enormous and will not end with presentations or speeches, but rather these are daily and permanent jobs related to the strategic need to claim sovereignty over our territory. Malvinas is not only history, but he is present and must be the future”.

“194 years ago Luis Vernet established this Command there with his family and other sections of the Argentinian population settled there and exercised full sovereignty, which was terminated on 3 January 1833 by Great Britain with the use of force and the expulsion of the Argentinian residents from the Islands. We have violated a principle that is part of the UN charter, namely the principle of territorial integrity. Since then, the path that has started has been the path of peace and negotiation. Since then, Argentina’s claims have become a fundamental pillar of our country’s foreign policy and at different times and at different speeds,” Cafiero explained.

“From the roadmap we gave the UK on March 2, we got no response: despite Argentina’s inclinations, Britain’s refusal to sit at the negotiating table with Argentina and comply with the international community, with resolution 2065 and these new proposals we made,” he said. .

“When we say that ‘Malvinas is, are and will be Argentina,’ what we say is that we acknowledge our history but we also think about the present and project our future,” the foreign minister added.

For his part, Guillermo Carmona He stated: “For us it is very important to honor this milestone and that we are able to execute this action where we provide one more signal that the Malvinas Question is in a priority place for foreign policy and in a prominent place on the national agenda.”

“Respecting the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in line with Argentina’s inclination to always show dialogue, I would like to highlight the decision made by Foreign Minister Cafiero regarding the creation of a new proposal for an agenda to continue negotiations on the Malvinas issue with the United Kingdom”, Carmona highlighted, to then consider : “Perhaps something has gone unnoticed that on the 2nd of March, Foreign Minister Cafiero met with his British counterpart and thereby proposed an agenda of issues to be implemented and highlighted the fact that the central question has been placed on the agenda to resume negotiations frozen by the United Kingdom in February 1982”.

On the same road, pitta considers that “this date is important because it marks one of the milestones of the achievement of full Argentine sovereignty in the Malvinas. It is a date to celebrate and remember that Argentina, the Argentine government, and the people of Argentina, developed at a very important moment , a city on the islands” .

Besides that, Clara Vernetdirect descendant of Luis Vernet -the first Politico-Military Commander in Malvinas-, summarizes the history of the time when the Command was created in the archipelago, together with the inhabitants “who were then deprived of their land, homes and belongings by force in an act of deep injustice, which did not forgotten by the Argentinians, and that is why we continue to provide discussions on all fronts where it should be given.

The event was attended by the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Cecilia Todesca Bocco; Secretary for International Affairs of the Ministry of Defence, Francisco Caféro; and his deputy Roxana Bertonebesides many national authorities, legislators, members of the Armed Forces, and foreign ambassadors.
