Cafiero presenting a map of the two continents in Ituzaingó with Mayor Descalzo: “When one discusses sovereignty, one discusses Malvinas”

During the ceremony, which was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Municipality of Ituzaingó and the candidate for mayor, Pablo Barefoot, and Secretary Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Guillermo Carmonamaps of two continents were mailed to the school director and Malvinas Veterans from the area and beyond.

In this context, Cafiero thanks former combatant Malvinas, “Because they carry testimony and behind that we have to generate the necessary triggers for knowledge to unfold. The bicontinental map is closely related to Malvinas because what he proposed was a public policy to provide visibility regarding the national territory.”. In this context, he points out: “When we talk about sovereignty, we talk about Malvinas. Because it’s been 190 years that foreign powers seized part of our territory and it continues. There is a struggle that we must fight, namely the meaning of sovereignty.”

Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs also highlighted: “On that map is Argentina’s future. We have to explore it, discuss it, because the existing resources are the resources that will determine future generations and the knowledge that we can develop in our state universities, within the framework of national science and technology, to produce these resources, will be the key. And adding value to national production, taking a big leap towards an Argentina that is dissatisfied with the current state of affairs, and wants more.”

Alberto Descalzo acknowledged the constant work of the Malvinas Veterans “In our schools we teach history, and in that history there is a map of two continents, which today we make visible and must be present in every public activity to make it transcend, and we must do it together.”.

Carmona, for his part, stated that the bicontinental map “depicts Argentina’s territorial sovereignty, positioning how society is aware of the importance of protecting every sector of our territory, and on this map the territories seized by foreign powers, England, occupy a central place: Malvinas, Georgias del South, South Sandwich, are maps that challenge us to continues to work to restore, in accordance with international law, territories unlawfully seized, and its distribution invites us to realize the various dimensions of our national identity.”.

It should be noted that since the entry into force of Law No. 26.651 of 2010, it has been established that the use of the Bicontinental Map of Argentina at all levels and modalities of the educational system and to display it in all national and provincial organizations, showing the Antarctic Sector of Argentina in its real proportions in relation to the continental sector and islands.
