Cillian Murphy: about Peaky Blinders, his project and his career

The end of the series coincides with the start of an advertising campaign for the company Montblanc. If there’s a program that clearly affects our dress habits, of course Peaky Cover have become one of them, especially among young groups in the UK. This is, of course, a stylistic assumption, because in fiction clothing serves to visually mark the different personalities of the actors. They don’t dress the same Tommy, who wants to be seen as elegant High-end English, rather than his brother Arthur, to whom the concern is irrelevant. And of course, adaptations of wardrobes for a certain time and place, after the World Wars and in a cold city with poor sewers (hence the hem of the trouser hem always lifts above the shoes, because there will literally be stuff in the ground). which you don’t want to step on), haircuts and the use of a very special beret where, in addition, the knife is hidden in self-defense or attack if necessary.

Today, the actor carefully checks his wardrobe and politely refuses some clothes, but has fun with others that he admits will never fit in his wardrobe. Of course, he has great respect for the new pieces Montblanc who will accompany you in the session. Perhaps because of its refined classicism with modern rounded shapes, sophisticated leather with a softer touch and black tones even in a glossy finish. “Our goal is to bring the maison product excellence closer: Meisterstück stationery,” explains Marco Tomasetta, the company’s new Artistic Director, of the new collection.

The audience fell in love with the Peaky Blinders wardrobe. Have you put this outfit in yourself?

It’s not really my style, but I love wearing suits. In the series they are made to measure us and that is something that excites me, although in everyday life I like to dress more casually. In my wardrobe you can find good boots, good jeans, good coats, scarves… I love everything that is tailored.

How did you decide to work with a brand like Montblanc?

I’m very classic and I like things that have a tradition and respect the manufacture. That’s where I found a bridge to collaborate with, as I have done Montblanc. Now that I’m working with a pen, I fully understand how you think.

Do you write with pen and hand?

I try very often. Nobody gets mail anymore, but I tried to do it with my family. I used to have a diary, but not anymore. I think it’s a bit sad when the art of calligraphy and its beauty is lost.

In addition to his prolific acting career, cillian has developed in parallel a series of important campaigns as an activist. His position on the need for young Irish people to vote, his actions to help the homeless, his role as Ambassador to UNESCO for the protection of minors and his ideological position (he left London with his family in the toxic haze of London Brexit) is very clear in several ways: “ We are seeing extreme polarization in some parts of the world which is frightening. I think all politicians are terrible and I think being bad is part of being a politician.”
