75-year-old Sir Elton John opened a concert at the Glastonbury festival outside Pilton in Somerset on Sunday night with fireworks and the song “Pinball Wizard”.
A song originally released by The Who, but performed by Elton John in the film version of the 1975 musical “Tommy”. He was dressed in a gold jacket and wore his signature glasses with tinted lenses.
The concert on the Pyramid stage continued with “The Bitch Is Back”, reported Sky News.
– I never thought I would play at Glastonbury, and here I am, said the aristocratic English artist.
– Could be my last
– It’s a very special and emotional night for me because it could be my last concert in England so I better do well. And I have to really cheer you up, because you’ve been standing here for so long.
He also performed “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”, among other things. He dedicated it to George Michael, who will turn 60 on Sunday. The two performed the song, first released in 1974, at a concert in 1991, and the version became a huge hit the following year.
Paul McCartney and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, among others, joined the concert from the side of the stage. Likewise, Elton John’s husband, David Furnish, and Taron Egerton, who played singers in the biopic “Rocket Man”.
– An extraordinary journey
Before the final song was performed, Sir Elton turned to the Glastonbury crowd and thanked them for dressing up. He thanked his fans for their immense love and loyalty spanning 52 years, writes the BBC.
– It’s been an amazing journey, said Sir Elton John, who was visibly emotional.
I had the best time, the best time,’ he said before performing an extended version of ‘Rocket man’, complete with fireworks on stage.

Guest artists at the concert were Jacob Lusk of the Gabriels band, Steven Sanchez, Brandon Flowers of The Killers and Rina Sawayama.
Previously there were rumors that Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, Eminem and Britney Spears would appear with Elton John, but it turned out to be untrue.
Elton John is currently on his latest tour, titled “Farewell Yellow Brick Road”, which will conclude with two concerts in Stockholm on July 7 and 8.
