Doctors in England are on their longest strike to date

Physician assistants have stopped working for six days in connection with a long-running pay dispute with the British government.

The strike comes at one of the busiest times of the year for the state’s NHS, which has been hit by a rash of respiratory and lung illnesses. This comes after a three-day doctors’ strike before Christmas.

The NHS said up to half of its workforce could lose their jobs as a result of the strike, and said it would have a significant impact on almost all routine care.

– This January could be one of the most difficult starts to the year the NHS has ever faced, says NHS England manager Stephen Powis.

The strike lasted until the morning of Tuesday 9 January. The BMA medical association announced a strike in December after negotiations with the government failed. According to the BMA, physician assistants have been offered a 3 percent pay increase and the average increase is 8.8 percent.

The offer was rejected because the money would have been distributed differently to various medical positions and because it “still resulted in pay cuts for many doctors.” Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and hospital managers criticized the strike.
