This morning Sony announced a change to its PlayStation Plus model, which means its response to the success of Game Pass. This doesn’t appear to be a significant change, however, for PlayStation users who currently own a PlayStation Plus, there may be doubts about the future of their subscription or how the new subscription model will work.

That’s why at ENTER.CO we’ve prepared this list of frequently asked questions, to answer some of the questions you might have about this new ‘PlayStation Plus’ (or Sony Game Pass).

What is the difference?

In simple terms: previously you only had one subscription model, while now you will have three different ‘tiers’ that will offer you benefits, for an additional fee.

Do I have PS Plus now? Will something change?

Not. Basically the current subscription will now be called ‘PlayStation Plus Essential’.

Can I upgrade my subscription?

Yes Keep in mind that if you have an annual subscription, some kind of adjustment will inevitably be made as the plan changes.

Are they still releasing games this month?

Yes, PlayStation will continue to provide two free games per month that you can download and play as long as you have an active subscription.

Do you still need PlayStation Plus to play online?

Yes A basic subscription is required to access the game’s online features.

What do other levels offer?

Without going into too much detail, a much wider library of games. The Extra version gives you access to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games, while the Premium version gives you games from PlayStation Original, PlayStation 2, PSP.

Will these games always be available?

This will work in a similar way to Game Pass, in that it will be a permanent library, but it will only allow you to play titles as long as you have the appropriate subscription active. This means that if you download God of War with an Extras subscription, but then downgrade to Essential, you won’t be able to continue playing the title.

How many games will be available?

In its announcement, Sony confirmed that around 400 PlayStation games will be available at the PlayStation Plus Extra level.

On the other hand, 340 games from PSP 2, PSP and PlayStation Original will be available at PlayStation Plus Essential and PlayStation Plus Extra levels.

What games are included in the collection?

Sony hasn’t released catalog details yet, but does mention a few such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal.

Will PlayStation Plus Extra be available in Latin America?

Not at first. In a statement Sony clarified that the first few months of this level will only be available in certain regions: the United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Europe. However, he also promised that he hopes to have a global rollout before he can finish in 2022.

How many will be available?

There is currently no date for the launch of the new subscription level. PlayStation confirmed that it will ship “More information soon.”
