The Ministry of Local Government has decided that Solås will not be excluded from the electoral register in Oslo until autumn.
As a result, he remains in first place on the Frp Oslo voter list, Oslo municipal election official Karina Miller told NTB.
– Now the city of Oslo has to put him back on the list so he’s at the top of the list for Frp, Miller said.
Solås had been the Frp’s leading candidate in Oslo, but was expelled from the party due to “undesirable behavior” in nachspiel following the party’s national meeting. Subsequently, he formed a new, independent group in the Oslo City Council.
The new top list loses first place
In late May, the electoral council in Oslo decided that Solås should be removed from the Frp electorate list in Oslo. Thus the second candidate Magnus Birkelund (37) moved up to first place.
So now he’s taken over by Solås. FRP still hopes that voters will choose another candidate.
– For the Progress Party, Magnus Birkelund will be the top candidate on our electoral list in Oslo. We hope voters can understand the policies of the Progressive Party and the party’s candidate members, Frp Assistant Secretary General Helge Fossum told NTB.
He confirmed to NTB that Solås had still been removed from Frp membership. When asked how the FRP would react to the fact that it was now at the top of the party list, Fossum replied:
– It’s up to the voter. If you want FRP politics, FRP members are the best at implementing it.
Believes that the ministry controls Oslo
Therefore, Solås was first given permission to withdraw his candidacy, before the electoral council in Oslo received the complaint. Therefore, the case must be processed again. The Ministry of Local Government is the appellate body and makes the final decision.
“The decision of the Electoral Council in the Municipality of Oslo to approve the proposed list of elections for the municipal council in Oslo from the Progress Party is corroborated by the change that Lars Petter Solås will run as a candidate,” the decision read.
Fossum at FRP disappointed.
– We find it very unfortunate that the ministry has sidelined the Oslo electoral council and thus ensured that it is not the candidate of the party itself that is at the top of the voter list, because Lars Petter Solås is no longer a member of the Progressive Party, said Fossum.
– The ministry has taken over Oslo, which has taken decisions completely in line with the practice of Oslo and several other major cities and counties, he continued.
