Fosen’s action ends: – Very difficult

Campaigners, who demand that the windmill at Fosen in Trøndelag be demolished, have blocked a total of ten ministries’ entrances over the past week. However, now they feel that the problem is getting the government’s attention, and end their action. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the campaign, Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen.

– We are stopping the action today, on condition that the windmill is dismantled, and the land is returned to Fosen Sami.

Fosen campaigners protested that more than 500 days have passed since the Supreme Court ruled that 151 wind turbines on the Fosen Peninsula in Trøndelag were illegal without mitigation measures.

Hætta Isaksen told Dagbladet that campaigners have been feeling the decision to end the campaign for the last few days.

– We feel indebted to everyone who has participated to finish it before people get exhausted. Today it felt right to go to the last level, namely the King in Council, to put the final pressure on the government to make them keep the promises they made yesterday, said Hætta Isaksen.

He said the campaign was tough.

– It’s really hard. Very difficult.

Ready for another campaign

The end of the action will be marked by a silent demonstration outside the Castle.

On Friday morning, a larger demonstration will also be held at Eidsvolls park outside the Storting.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) and Minister of Oil and Energy Terje Aasland (Ap) apologized to reindeer herders in Fosen.

Hætta Isaksen said that the apology was long overdue, and that they now had a much better basis for solving the problem. However, they are prepared to take action again, if that doesn’t happen.

– Allowed to cry. It is allowed to smile. For what we have done, we should be very proud. The government must not forget what happened here. They must remember the power that is within us, and we must watch them in the future. It’s very important that they don’t let us down again. And we are ready to take action.

– Ongoing human rights violations

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has breakfast with deer owners Friday morning.

– This is a powerful watch, in my opinion. It was not a meeting with a decision, but a meeting to start work that we will take very seriously, Støre told the press after the meeting.

He asked to be believed that governments have been working with the decree since it came – and that they have been working to ensure that international rights obligations are complied with.

– Today’s situation is that they will not. It is a violation of human rights and we cannot live with it, said the Prime Minister.

He went on to say that “we will start concrete steps quickly”, and this issue will be of his utmost concern.

One of the deer owners who attended the meeting said nothing was expected from the meeting.

– We based on that Supreme Court ruling, we believe they have made a decision on what needs to be decided, said the deer owner, who feels he has now taken a step forward.

– You feel that things are going in the right direction.
