Governor David Monreal Ávila held a meeting with the British Ambassador to Mexico, Jon Benjamin

Zacatecas, Zac., November 9, 2023.- Governor David Monreal Ávila met with the British Ambassador to Mexico, Jon Benjamin, who discussed environmental policy issues and responsible development of the mining sector.

The state president received representatives from the British Embassy at the Government Palace, before whom he spoke about the public responsibility and commitment that the entity has to the environment, where an issue as important as climate change has been addressed.

He realized that this problem is the most important and must be strengthened to avoid further environmental damage and so that economic and technological activities are in line with environmental concerns.

Governor David Monreal Ávila stated that the state of Zacatecas is working to address cutting-edge environmental issues, and considers that the first step to move forward is to translate them into a legal framework.

Therefore, he celebrated the visit of the British Ambassador in the framework of the presentation of the Climate Change Law Regulations for the State of Zacatecas and the Municipality, as a continuation of the efforts made for its preparation by the Government. Zacatecas, in coordination with civil society organizations Environmental Legislation and Policy (POLEA) and the UK Government’s UK Partnership for Accelerating Climate Transition (UK PACT), are supporting the government’s efforts to address barriers to clean growth.

Monreal Ávila reiterated his commitment to promoting responsible mining, a premise he emphasized in his meetings with mining companies, which he asked to take action to protect the environment and which accepted this situation.
