Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier (31) had increased the home side’s lead to 3-1 with a spectacular free-kick on the crossbar from 25 meters when Haaland pushed Manchester City back into the game with a close-range shot half an hour before the end. The score was Jærbow’s third in as many appearances in the Premier League.

Haaland then dashed towards the halfway line before turning around and celebrating at the City fans in a way that infuriated the Newcastle fans.

– The moves he made, the certainty he had about the opportunity can getting in that area and getting him there is why he scores goals. It makes all the difference. City had never experienced this before in a player. He’s too big. He’s too strong, comments Sky Sports Andy Hinchcliffe.

– I am disappointed. When you lead 3-1, in any game, you expect to win. I can’t sit here and say I’m happy. Then I will lie. It was a very good collective and individual performance from us. “I’m very happy with the players,” said Newcastle manager Eddie Howe at a news conference here at St James’ Park.

Like everyone else present on Sunday night, former Manchester City player Hinchcliffe witnessed an unforgettable encounter. After a 2-3 loss to Haaland, the Norwegian and his team-mates were chasing a hungry bull-like equalizer from Jæren – with father Alfie (49) and investor ystein Stray Spetalen (60) together in the stands.

With his head down, Haaland took the lead and created space for Bernardo Silva shortly thereafter for the Portuguese to equalize at 3-3, following an absolutely insane through ball from Kevin De Bruyne (31). The first 64 minutes of the game had almost everything in it, but the drama wasn’t over yet.

With a quarter of an hour remaining, former City man Trippier, now Newcastle captain, tackled superstar De Bruyne to knee heights. Referee Jarred Gillett (35) was quickly shown a red card, while players from both teams gathered around match leaders Australia. After protests and video review, Gillett withdrew the expulsion, and Trippier was allowed to continue on the field.

– He wants to stop the counterattack. I haven’t seen it on TV yet. If the referee sees it on video and thinks it’s not red, it’s probably not red. “I thought it was a red card, but I don’t know,” said Pep Guardiola at his post-match press conference.

– It was a big moment in the match. If we were 10 people there it would probably have been a completely different game for us. “I don’t think it’s dangerous given the height he steps with his feet, and maybe that’s what saved Kieran,” Howe said of the man who took the free-kick on the crossbar:

The Newcastle defender’s most important task is to help prevent Haaland and his team-mates from finding new nets. The 22-year-old from Bryne, who put in an impressive display, had another good chance at 3-3 but volleyed in from the corner of the five-yard box just wide.

– We wanted to fight them, and I think we managed to do that throughout the game. “City have the quality to come back in the game but this performance shows how far we have come as a team,” Trippier told Sky Sports.

The Newcastle captain walked past VG in the corridor below the main stand on his way to an interview with the field’s best player, Allan Saint-Maximin (25). Then Trippier gave a speech to the French in which he said: “You proved with this performance what you can do. You must continue at this level.”

Hours before the game, supporters filled the streets around St. James’ Park in the heart of the city. In the sun outside the bars of Newcastle Arms, Rosie’s and Shearer’s, drinks were consumed as the clock ticked towards kick-off.

Inside the massive arena, where the likes of Newcastle legends Jackie Milburn, Malcom Macdonald and Alan Shearer previously made themselves unforgettable, Haaland and the rest of the players lined up on a strewn carpet of grass. In the stands, 52,258 hard supporters alternated between standing and sitting during what soon became a fierce battle.

The team are the only team in the Premier League not to concede a goal so far this season but after Australia’s Gillett started the game it took just five minutes before City captain Ilkay Gündogan (31) sent the visitors ahead. with a beautiful reception on a pass from Bernardo Silva followed by an unforgivable finish inside the 16-yard box.

The perfect start to Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing crew, but little by little Newcastle took control. With Haaland as a sad spectator, Saint-Maximin occasionally wreaks havoc with City defender Kyle Walker (32), who contributed to “The Magpies” turning things around. First, Miguel Almirón (28) equalized with his knee after less than half an hour and just 10 minutes later, spearhead Callum Wilson hit back to make it 2-1 after another scintillating performance by French crowd favorite Saint-Maximin.

As the ball hit the net behind the outstretched City stars, more than 50,000 seats applauded as Newcastle’s patriots rose and cheered with joy as Wilson raced ahead of them on the pitch.

– We showed our abilities. The future is bright for Newcastle if we can maintain this level. I’m just trying to show the world what I can do, the Frenchman said.

In the first half, there was great belief in the success of black and white, but in the second half the game completely changed its character again.
