Houthis attack US destroyers and merchant ships in the Red Sea

MADRID, December 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United States Department of Defense has confirmed the attacks launched this Sunday by the Houthi insurgency on its destroyer ‘USS Carney’ and on the British cargo ship ‘Unity Explorer’ in the Red Sea. The Houthi group has confirmed the attack.

According to the Pentagon’s statement, reported by the Al Arabiya network correspondent in Washington, the American destroyer “first shot down a Houthi rebel drone at it while it was sailing through the southern Red Sea.”

The destroyer then observed that “a ballistic missile had been fired at a civilian freighter, identified as the ‘Unity Explorer’.” The missiles hit the vicinity of the ship, which is Bahamian-flagged but operated from the UK.

“The ‘Carney’ immediately responded to their request for assistance and, during the assistance mission, shot down another Houthi drone that was heading towards the two ships,” according to the note.

Sources from the Israeli newspaper ‘Haaretz’ have confirmed the attack on this cargo ship and highlighted that the British company operating it is owned by Danny Ungar, son of Israeli commercial magnate Rami Ungar, whose ship was intercepted two weeks ago.

THE HUTHI VERSION

Later, the spokesman for the Houthi military forces, General Yahya Sari Qasim Sari, confirmed the attack in the waters of the Red Sea and said the ‘Unity Explorer’ and ‘Number Nine’ were both “Israeli ships”.

The two were near Bab al Mandab when the Houthis launched cruise missiles at the Unity Explorer and attacked Number Nine with the aircraft. The two ships ignored warning messages from the Yemeni navy, Sari explained in a message on Telegram.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces will continue to prevent Israeli ships from sailing through the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea until the aggression against our brothers in the Gaza Strip stops,” stressed Sari.

Therefore, the Houthis insist on giving their “warning” to all “Israeli or Israeli-linked” vessels that are now “legitimate targets.”
