Indra won the biggest contract in secondsair traffic control (ATM), has a duration of thirteen years, including the installation of a minimum of 23 new radars and 42 deployment activities, for a minimum amount of 100 million euros.

The iCAS solution, provided and implemented by Indra, is a breakthrough in operation automation. It offers a suite of tools to safely manage future air traffic growth in the area and also enhances interoperability with other European control centres.

The Munich deployment is part of the Single European Sky plan from air navigation providers from Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK, with Indra as the technology partner.

The Phase II iCAS system in Munich is the first full 4D track based system to operate in complex approach and terminal airspace. Trajectory management makes it possible to accurately calculate the future position of each flight in time and facilitates conflict planning and management, so that conflicts are minimized and can be detected and resolved early.

System flexibility is also an important factor contributing to making more direct flights and reducing delays as well as bringing benefits in reducing CO2 emissions and noise pollution. The Munich Control Center monitors the airspace of central and southern Germany and coordinates the Munich, Memmingen, Nuremberg, Leipzig, Erfurt and Dresden airports. With 350 air traffic controllers, in 2022 it manages around 860,000 aircraft movements.
