Joe Biden will not attend Carlos III’s coronation in Great Britain

MADRID, April 5th. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has informed King Charles III of Great Britain that he will be the first American woman to represent the country at his coronation.

The White House has indicated, in a statement, that the president “has congratulated the king on his upcoming coronation and has informed him that the first lady, Jill Biden, looks forward to appearing on behalf of the United States.”

The president “has also expressed his desire to meet with the king in the UK in the future,” the letter continued, adding that they had commented on the “strength of the relationship” and “friendship” between the two nations.

The coronation of England’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla Parker-Bowles will take place over the first weekend in May, from Saturday 6 to Monday 8 at Westminster Abbey in London. On Saturday there will be a coronation, a procession of the king and a royal greeting from Buckingham Palace. On Sundays in May there will be a concert at Windsor Castle and a ‘Great Coronation Luncheon’. The last day, Monday, will be dedicated to voluntary program action.

Carlos III ascends to the throne in September 2022 after the long reign of his mother Elizabeth II. The new king will be crowned at the age of 74 and will thus be the latest coronation in the monarchy’s history, as well as the first in nearly 70 years.
