Emergency services were on their way to Lambertseter Middle School after reports of a fire, police reported on Twitter.
There should have been a lot of smoke at the scene, according to police, who reported that the fire was most likely in the gymnasium.
Cecilie Thoresen Street will be closed in both directions because of the fire, police wrote.
– The Karlsrud school is being evacuated because of the smoke. The burning building must be completely engulfed in flames. Working to clarify that it was the gymnasium that caught fire, said operations manager Guro Sandnes in an update.
Shortly thereafter, the police corrected, and wrote that the Karlsrud school did not need to be evacuated at all.
There should have been no class in the gymnasium when the fire started.
Duty commander Glenn Gulbrandsen at the 110 center confirmed to TV 2 that substantial resources had been dispatched, and said 11 fire trucks were on their way to the scene.
– We received the first message at 14.15 as an automatic fire alarm. It was quickly updated to a fire in a building after several calls from the public, Gulbrandsen said.
Firefighters started putting out the fire.
– I have received a message that the building has been set on fire. There is likely no risk of dispersal, as it is a brick building which reduces the risk of dispersal, the guard commander added.
