Ground handling workers Wizz Air, owned by GH London Ground Handling Services, have announced a three-day strike that will cause “significant delay and disruption”.
The protests will affect more than 80 workers affiliated with Unite, the main union in the UK, and are caused by a “total breakdown” of the working relationship between the two parties, according to the statement.
Specifically, the first 24-hour strike will be carried out on 30 August, followed by another strike on 6 and 13 September.
The labor dispute was the result of “continued threats” of disciplinary action against Unite representatives, the use of security cameras and audio recordings of workers in the break room without consent or non-compliance by the company with disciplinary processes and its own claims. , among other examples provided by unions.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham criticized GH London’s behavior as “appalling”: “Workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace and company behavior falls far short of that standard.”.
Additionally, Unite has assured that they have tried to resolve the issue, which “came from afar”, through negotiations, but “GH London is not listening to union concerns”.
