Erling Braut Haaland had a rare emotional outburst after the Champions League win in Istanbul. Afterwards, he paid tribute to Gry Marita’s mother, among others.
Haaland and Manchester City beat Inter 1-0 in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday and finished an almost unmatched season. After the match, there was a lot of emotion at the Atatürk Stadium.
As calm settles down on the Turkish arena, Erling Braut Haaland is interviewed by a star-studded panel of football experts under the auspices of the CBS TV channel. Peter Schmeichel, Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher were among those who asked questions.
One of them is about what Haaland immediately felt after the final whistle sounded.
– After the match I was full of emotions. One hundred kilos fell off my shoulders, said the Norwegian.
– I can’t remember the last time I cried so much in my life, he added.
Mentally tough
Then Bryne’s goalscorer revealed that ending the season with back-to-back important games costs money. The 22-year-old admits he feels pressure.
– Yes, I have done that. Also in the Premier League. If I come in (on the City team) and don’t win the Premier League it won’t be a disaster, but not good. It’s been tough mentally the last few weeks. It’s such a relief to have worked it out, said Haaland.
Running – raging last night
Peter Schmeichel went on to point out that Alfie’s father has received a lot of attention as an important supporter of the City striker. Not much focus has been on Gry Marita’s mother. When asked how much mother means, Haaland replied:
– Of course a lot. He is a runner. From him I get my speed. Honestly, I got a lot of support from my parents. My mom ended up a bit in the shadows, while my dad was in the spotlight.
– They have driven me to training and supported me from day one. They ultimately mean everything to me, he added.
Bryne’s party
In the CBS broadcast, the City striker also saw photos of the celebration at Bryne. Then thoughts went to other relatives.
– It’s special. In my hometown, there aren’t many people, but seeing people care so much means a lot. Granny was also in the crowd, she was wearing a suit like everyone else, Haaland smiled.
Manchester City also clinched the league title and won the FA Cup this season. No one has done that since Manchester United in 1999.
