Since 26 June 2019, there has been a dialogue between Norway and Belgium on the Makaveli Lindén.
The now 23-year-old Swede has been convicted of the 2018 murder of Heikki Bjørklund Paltto in Majorstua. Before he was arrested, he fled Norway via Belgium to France.
On the way, according to Belgian police, he killed Johanna Jostameling who died in Mechelen. After three years, the solution for handover is now approaching.
Promise before summer
– All the formalities are now in place, and the deal on the handover will be done before the summer, so we’ll see if it’s also possible to finish the handover before the holidays. It will be a condition on our part that he gets a place in an institution where he can continue the treatment he has received, and not be put in jail. “Therefore, we have to come to an agreement with the Belgian prosecution authorities on the terms before he is handed over,” police lawyer Christian Hatlo told Dagbladet.
According to the decision of the Oslo District Court, Lindén has now agreed to surrender to Belgium. Consent means that the court must make a decision within a week at the latest, it is stated in the verdict.

The Oslo District Court concluded in its ruling that the conditions for handover were present. However, Lindén did not want to talk about the murders he was accused of there.
– When the decision is ready, he will return to Norway, but where he will end up is uncertain. He is a Swedish citizen, so there will likely be a solution where he completes his sentence from Norway and possibly Belgium at an institution in Sweden, Hatlo told Dagbladet.

Refuse to talk
Lindén’s defense attorney, attorney ystein Storrvik, said they also wanted a speedy handover. The precondition is that Lindén receive treatment in Belgium pending his trial and verdict there.
– He has so far refused to talk about the Belgian case here in Norway, said Storrvik.
Lawyers say that Lindén will return to Norway once the case in Belgium is processed. Where to go next, according to lawyers, is uncertain.
– There will be a completely new assessment of whether he should be transferred to Sweden or not, said the defender.
