– Prepare us for this

Queen Elizabeth is dead. This is how the Norwegian media works now.

96-year-old Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday, September 8, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The announcement came around 7:30 pm Norwegian time, and by then the Norwegian media was ready.

At around 2pm today there were reports from Great Britain that the royal family had gathered at the queen’s premises and reports from Buckingham Palace that doctors were concerned about the queen’s health. Since then, the anchor at NRK has been dressed in black.

– The BBC is doing the same, and giving out some signals, says the editor for the live channel on NRK Nyheter, Espen Olsen Langfeldt.

He called death a historical event, which they knew had great interest among the public.

– We’re ready for this. It will be more challenging if this unknown situation lasts longer, said Espen Olsen Langfeldt.

Dagsrevyen has extended its broadcast, and the Debate, which was supposed to take place at 9:20 p.m. tonight, has been cancelled.

Aftenposten is in London – Dagbladet is on its way

Dagbladet has several reporters in the UK now, and more to come, says editor-in-chief Jan Thomas Holmlund.

– The UK is naturally in mourning right now, and it was important that we were there, so that we could provide our readers with the best possible information and picture, both in text and on TV, he wrote to Medier24.

Both Dagbladet, NRK, Aftenposten, VG and TV 2 have been prepared for death.

– We are therefore well prepared, with words of warning and historical pictures and texts explaining its position in the UK and in the world, says Aftenposten news editor Tone Tveøy Strøm-Gundersen.

He pointed out that the Queen has been the longest serving regent of Great Britain, and has received 15 Prime Ministers. Aftenposten will discuss this in detail in the future.

– With a presence in London and journalism explaining to readers the meaning of death, the new king and what is now happening in Great Britain, writes Strøm-Gundersen.

Technical problems in NTB

Throughout the night, NTB is updated with news and reactions to the case. At 7:26 p.m., their foreign caretaker reported via message that they were experiencing a technical problem that “caused delays in material delivery”.

Ten minutes later, they write that the problem has been resolved and everything will be back to normal.

Good Morning Norway is making a change

TV 2 said they had prepared preliminary matters and agreements with guests at the studio in regards to the death.

– Flat and submission forms will be affected. We broadcast live on Nyhetskanalen of course, have expanded news coverage on TV 2 and ongoing coverage on tv2.no.

All media houses said they would be following developments and the situation in the UK closely over the next few days.

– A lot is going to happen in the UK, and we’ll be approaching it in the next few days, says Olsen Langfeldt at NRK.

– Interest in the British monarchy is also very high in Norway, and the need for information about royal death is also great. This story is one of the issues that will shape the news landscape in the coming days, writes Jan Thomas Holmlund in Dagbladet.

– Good morning Norway is also busy and adapting the content of tomorrow’s broadcast, wrote Solbrække on TV 2.

Will work late and early

Like any other media house, VG has prepared for death.

– As soon as the message arrived about the Queen’s state of health, we connected our related journalist Nina Rangøy in London, who can cover from outside Buckingham Palace and our sports journalist Joachim Baardsen is also in the UK. We’re also sending new teams to Scotland and to London, writes news editor at VG, Tora Bakke Håndlykken.

He wrote that this would be VG’s biggest priority in the coming days.

– We’ve been broadcasting from scratch, the troubleshooting desk has been expanded with additional people and our skilled journalists and commentators are ready to work late and early.
