The Sports Council, Joaquín Villazón, today presented the sporting event Calamorro Skyrace 2022, which will be held in Benalmádena next weekend and will bring together more than 300 runners from across Andalusia and countries such as Italy, France, Morocco or the UK. .
“This thirteenth edition of the race will be marked by a significant improvement in quality, with the aim of positioning the race on a national and international level”, stressed the Sports Counselor.
“From Sport, we seek two goals when collaborating in organizing an event of this type: to guarantee a quality level of competition, and to promote sport as a dynamic element of tourism in the off-season, showing participants and companions the benefits of Benalmádena”, appreciated Villazón, who thanked thanks to the Benalmádena Alpine Club for organizing the test.
“Another aspect that will be carried out in this year’s edition is the maintenance of the chainsaw: after the race is over, the organizers will clean the saws along the race route, so that the natural environment is cleaner than before the sporting event”, the Sports Council has highlighted.
Benalmádena Alpine Club president and organizer, Rogelio Macías, explained that the race is back “after two very difficult seasons due to the pandemic, although in 2020 it could be held in February, we are very happy to celebrate this year. the thirteenth edition of this race.
“In this edition we will take a tremendous leap of quality, with the aim of positioning this race overseas, both nationally and internationally”, said Macías.
“The first-rate runners, who are located at the top of the rankings around the world, will participate in the test, the participation of which guarantees us a significant impact in the general and special media”, the president celebrated.
“After 13 editions, this year’s Calamorro Skyrace has finally become the Andalusian Mountain Racing Championship: we have been asking for it from the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation for some time”, he stressed.
“In total, the test will register 300 runners on various routes: the most important of which is the Calamorro Skyrace, a 27 kilometer route with over 2,100 meters of positive elevation gain, where over 170 runners are registered; we also have the more popular mountain races, with 17 kilometers of routes and 1,200 meters of positive elevation gain; and cadets and youth competitions, from 9 kilometers and a drop of between 400 and 600 meters”, the organizers have detailed.
Rogelio Macías also appreciated the financial contribution of the award: “We will distribute 6,000 euros between the podiums, in both the men’s and women’s categories, another example of the importance we give to this year’s edition.”
