Photo agency Backgrid has rejected a request from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to turn over photos taken during a car chase in New York on Tuesday.
– We hereby demand that Backgrid immediately send all photos, videos and films taken by the freelance photographer after the couple left the event and the following hours, said the letter from the attorney to the agency, according to BBC.
Backgrid provided a somewhat sarcastic response:
– In the US, as you may know, property belongs to those who own it. A third party could not demand its surrender, as a king might. Perhaps you should tell your client that the British rule of royal prerogative over citizens’ property has long been rejected by this country.
The royal appetizer they refer to doesn’t exist in England either.
After a gala party in New York on Tuesday, Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and their mother were allegedly chased by paparazzi for two hours. A spokesperson for the couple stated that the episode could have ended disastrously and led to several errors.
The car chase may have brought back bad memories for Prince Harry. Her mother, Princess Diana, was being chased by paparazzi in Paris when the car she was traveling in crashed into the tunnel wall on August 31, 1997. Diana died in the accident.
