Foreign Direct Investment in Mexico increased 48% in the first quarter

“The behavior observed in the first quarter of 2023 represents investors’ confidence to maintain and expand their investments domestically,” the ministry said in a statement.

During the first three months of the year, registered FDI in Mexico came mostly from the United States, Spain, Argentina, Netherlands, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan and Brazil.

53% of resources are concentrated in the manufacturing sector, while 33% is used for financial services, he added.

The remaining flows are for transportation, mail and storage, construction, mining, retail and wholesale trade.

FDI is one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency, along with oil exports, remittances and tourism receipts.

Mexico’s economy, the second largest in Latin America after Brazil, will grow 3.1% in 2022, from the 4.7% expansion observed in the previous year.
