Two choices
The Queen’s official death message was posted on the gates of the royal residence in the British capital on Thursday. At the same time, Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, were named as the new royal couple.
Senior adviser Erlend Lønnum at the Language Council told Dagbladet that you basically have two options when you must now refer to King Charles III’s wife.
– The consort and queen will be right. Gemalinne has been used in Norwegian for a long time, but is only used in very rare contexts. It would be better to call her a queen. The British royal house uses a consort, Lønnum explains.

He added that the definitions of concubine and concubine were used for men and women respectively. He knew of no cases where gemal was used for a woman in Norway.

Also in the official obituary posted at Buckingham Palace after Queen Elizabeth’s death, Charles and Camilla are referred to as King and Queen.
