– Reality goes beyond House Of Cards – NRK Culture and entertainment

While the race to become a presidential candidate in the United States is tough, things also get tough when the fourth season of “House Of Cards” comes around. But reality may be the hardest this time.

Wouldn’t believe Trump in this series

NRK met with actors Michael Kelly and Neve Campbell on Netflix’s London set. Kelly plays Doug Stamper, chief of staff to President Francis Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey). Neve Campbell is new to the series, appearing as a PR consultant hired for Claire Underwood (played by Robin Wright). The first lady also has big political ambitions this season.

Michael Kelly said he thought people would react if they included a character like Donald Trump in the series. Here he is interviewed by NRK in London.

When NRK asked what it felt like to launch season 4 right now, Kelly laughed wildly.

– I think it’s very funny because it’s not us who are the wildest anymore (more laughter), but what is actually happening in politics in our country.

– All you need is Trump?

– If we tried to put him in the series, and he wasn’t there yet, people would say that we had gone too far, that it was too crazy, says Kelly and laughs more.

Afraid of domestic politics

Neve Campbell was also blown away by all the attention surrounding the nominations.

– Currently on all TV channels, both in America and in the world. People are interested and follow it. But what happened was a bit scary, especially for those who were candidates, he said.

Campbell himself has been a fan of the series for years, but has played other roles, including the film “Scream.”

Previous season Ending with a complete split between the president and first lady in the midst of a demanding election campaign, the conflict now escalates, not without help from Campbell and Kelly’s characters.

Politicians love this series

The day before NRK met with the actors, there was a meeting in America where politicians, advisors and actors met. Among those in attendance was Obama’s longtime chaplain adviser, Valerie Jarret.

– It’s interesting to see how well they follow the series, they love it, said Michael Kelly and added that he loves socializing with politicians.

When NRK reminded Neve Campbell that President Obama and his predecessor Bill Clinton were among her fans, she stopped, looked up in the air and laughed.

– How strange…I hadn’t thought about that until now….”thank you”, he said ironically.

House Of Cards Season 4 will be released next Friday.
