Rishi Sunak has arrived in Switzerland for his final international assignment before the UK general election.

The Prime Minister participates in a Ukraine peace summit – along with 50 other world leaders – at a remote resort near Lake Lucerne.

Speaking at the event, Sunak warned Russia’s allies that they were “on the wrong side of history”.

He said: “Putin is not interested in real peace. He has launched a sustained diplomatic campaign against this summit by ordering countries to stay away and spinning a false narrative about his willingness to negotiate.”

This is the largest gathering of world leaders focused solely on Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.

Mr Sunak met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reaffirm Britain’s support for the country and re-emphasize that any peace agreement must be subject to conditions.

The meeting took place one day after the Prime Minister returned from G7 Summit in Italy and in the middle of the election campaign.

With less than three weeks until election day, the Conservative Party continues to lag in opinion polls, meaning this could be the last foreign summit Sunak attends as prime minister.
