Russia directs weapons accusations against Ukraine at Security Council

Russia has requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday. UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia claimed that Russian troops in Ukraine had found evidence of a “very dangerous biological experiment”.

This was allegedly carried out by Ukraine in cooperation with the United States. Nebenzia claimed that efforts had been made to cover up what had happened, according to BBC.

“Total bullshit”

UN disarmament chief Izumi Nakamitsu said the UN was not aware of any biological weapons development program in Ukraine. The United States called Russia’s accusations a lie, while Britain used the term “nonsense.”

US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield claims that it is possible that Russia itself is planning the use of biological weapons – and this is the background to the false accusations against Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed similar concerns.

– Norway curses loudly

Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party) said Russia had made false accusations about US biological weapons laboratories and chemical weapons development in Ukraine.

– Chemical and biological weapons are classified as weapons of mass destruction. All use of such weapons is prohibited and something Norway strongly condemns. Norway also addressed this at the UN Security Council this afternoon, Huitfeldt said in comments to NTB.
