Snow and cold hit England as flooding continues

London, Jan 8 (EFE).- Snow and cold arrived in England this Monday after several days of storms that caused flooding in several areas of England and Wales, which is still ongoing, according to the authorities.

The Meteorological Service (Met) warned of the risk of frost, especially in southeast England, while snow began to fall with varying intensity in different locations as a cold wave set in across the country following rainstorm and wind Henk.

A few flakes of snow fell in central London today in the afternoon, although it has not yet set, and tonight temperatures are expected to drop to -4 degrees Celsius in some places in England and Wales and around -7 in the north of Scotland.

On the other hand, the UK Government’s Environment Agency currently maintains 149 flood warnings and risk alerts due to Storm Henk, mainly along the River Trent in central England and to a lesser extent on the River Thames.

Minor groundwater flooding is expected in the UK regions of Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire as well as Yorkshire and the Humber over the next five days, the agency said in its latest statement.

The agency confirmed that, although around 75,000 properties had been protected from flooding in recent days, around 2,000 properties had been flooded.

UK Labor Party leader Keir Starmer today criticized the Conservative Government’s “lack of effort” in preventing flooding during a visit to affected areas in northern England, after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited victims in Oxford on Sunday.
