The late BBC celebrity Jimmy Savile is now most often referred to as a pedophile because of his abuse of children, but he also abused the elderly and those needing care in nursing homes. Investigations showed that more than 60 people became victims of Savil.
Great interest
Journalist and screenwriter Maitland has tapped actor Alistair McGowan to play the lead role in the drama, called “Meetings with Jimmy Savile”.
– This is a matter of great interest to the public. Many cringe at first, but after a few seconds they ask: When will it be installed? Maitland added Guard.
They were all wondering how the scandal had happened, the essence of the BBC.
Jonathan Maitland is a daily reporter on the ITV program Tonight, and has worked as a journalist for more than 30 years. However, he believes that in some cases, drama can be a better way to tell a story like this.
Savil’s “Voice”.
– Nearly everything Savil’s character says in the play are things he himself said in interviews, Maitland said.
He has spoken with several victims, or their attorneys, and said he has received almost exclusively positive reactions.
“They understand that this is a serious play, a kind of reportage theater, we’re not kidding,” Maitland said.
– Exploited again
There are some dissenting voices. – Some people said they felt exploited once again, the journalist said. – But you could turn the tables and say that the play gives a voice to the victims, says Maitland.
The play “Meeting with Jimmy Savile” was staged in Garden theater in London on June 10.
